President Hsu's Message to the Labouré Community

Dear Labouré Community,

Today I have difficult news to share, and I do so knowing the strong bonds within the Labouré community will support us all through this moment of change. Labouré College of Healthcare has reached an agreement to transition its nursing programs to Curry College and establish the Labouré Center for Advancing Healthcare Opportunity. Pending regulatory approvals, these programs will be part of Curry’s School of Nursing and Health Science beginning in the Fall Semester. Labouré will cease all academic operations as of August 31, 2026.

I know how hard this is to hear, and I share your sadness.

To our students, we know how hard you work - going to school while working, raising families and balancing so many other things in your life. This will not prevent you from reaching your goal. ASN nursing students who will complete their degrees after closure will see their courses move from Labouré’s campus to Curry’s Milton campus beginning in Fall 2026. Labouré’s RN-BSN students will have the opportunity to transfer credits into Curry’s RN to Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing Program. We are in the process of completing articulation agreements for our Respiratory Care students so that you will have fall transfer options as well. I am sorry that we cannot move forward together, and we are committed to finding you a path to complete your programs without interruption. Students in all programs - including all of our Health Science, Neurodiagnostic Technology, Intraoperative Neuromonitoring, and Healthcare Administration students - who will complete their education prior to closure, will continue as usual and graduate from Labouré this summer.

To our faculty and staff, I am incredibly grateful for your dedication and the work you have done to make Labouré a special and welcoming place for our students. I know we will work together to continue supporting our students and each other through this transition.

To our alumni, you have been with us since the beginning, through everything, and I promise your legacy will not be lost. Curry College has agreed to welcome Labouré alumni and the Alumni Council into the Labouré Center, and will work with you to preserve the history and spirit of Labouré.

To our loyal friends and supporters, you have helped so many students over the years and I assure you the Labouré mission and access to nursing degree education will continue.

This decision was a hard one to make. Faced with persistent financial and enrollment challenges and regulatory hurdles, the Board of Directors proactively investigated options that would preserve Labouré’s mission. The board sought a partner institution with the ability, resources, and commitment to serve our current and future students. In Curry College, we found a partner that shares our goal to make nursing degree education accessible for a student body of adult learners and healthcare professionals who represent the rich diversity of our community.

In reaching the agreement with Curry College, the Board prioritized the Labouré student experience and the legacy of the college which has served Greater Boston for more than 130 years.

The agreement which was unanimously agreed to by the Labouré Board affirms:

  • The Labouré legacy will be honored through the establishment of the new Labouré Center for Advancing Healthcare Opportunity.
  • Upon regulatory approval, Labouré nursing students who transfer to Curry will have the opportunity to complete their nursing programs without interruption and earn fully accredited degrees.
  • Tuition and fees charged to Labouré students transferring to Curry will remain the same as the 2026-2027 rates.
  • Earned credits will transfer seamlessly from Labouré to Curry.
  • Curry will invite a number of Labouré faculty and staff to transition to Curry to maintain stability in curriculum, instruction, and support services.
  • The Center on Curry’s campus in Milton will support Labouré students with resources and services to ensure access, continuity, and academic progress.
  • Following regulatory and legal approvals, Labouré’s endowment is pledged to support the establishment of the Center and will continue to provide resources and services to Labouré students.
  • The Alumni Council will be welcomed to the Curry community and continue to organize Labouré alumni and hold Labouré alumni events.

I recognize this news raises many questions and concerns, and I assure you that no member of the Labouré community will walk this path forward alone. Labouré leaders are prepared to support you throughout this transition and are available to address your most pressing concerns. I will also connect with our alumni, community partners, donors, and supporters to provide additional detail. In the meantime, please find information, resources, and answers to questions about this transition at www.laboure.edu/legacy which will be live at 4pm EST today. As I reflect on the history and legacy of Labouré, I am honored to have been a part of such a unique and treasured institution. For more than a century, Labouré has educated nurses and healthcare professionals to offer equitable and dignified care to the people of Massachusetts and expanded the healthcare workforce to serve communities most in need. While I no doubt share your disappointment that the college must end its academic operations, I am comforted that the Labouré mission continues and Labouré nurses will remain essential to the health and wellness of our community for years to come.

Sincerely,

Lily S. Hsu
President
