Associate of Science
in Nursing (ASN)

Our program is unlike any other nursing program in Boston. Labouré is different than an associate program in a community college because:

• Included in our program are a number of free resources offered through the Office of Academic Support including: academic workshops such as in-class note-taking strategies, effective ways to utilize your textbooks, development of concept maps, implementation of time management strategies to maximize your limited time, and test-taking strategies; language support services on campus and through Zoom; free tutoring in-person and through Zoom, offered in both one-on-one and group drop-in formats; and more.
• Nursing students in their first two professional nursing courses are eligible to participate in the college’s peer mentorship program and be paired with a peer mentor who has demonstrated academic success in their coursework and is interested in offering additional peer-based student support. 
• Labouré has specialized in Nursing education for over 130 years. Healthcare education is our expertise and only focus.

Day courses and Evening courses are set at different times of the day to provide more opportunities for our students.

Although the schedule of classes changes each semester, there are some general guidelines about when the courses will meet:

• The Day courses meet anywhere in the range of 8am to 3pm, although the sessions do not last the entire seven-hour range.
• The Evening courses meet anywhere in the range of 3pm to 10pm, although the sessions do not last the entire seven-hour range.

Nursing coursework is complex and requires commitment. Labouré offers nursing courses on both day and evening schedules to accommodate students with other responsibilities. While many Labouré students have been able to successfully balance school and part-time employment, flexible part-time employment is recommended in order to accommodate school requirements.

The purpose of the Labouré College of Healthcare Associate Degree Nursing Program is to develop competent entry level registered nurses to function as caring, competent, and compassionate practitioners across a variety of care settings and to establish a foundation for lifelong learning. The graduate of this program will be able to work with and provide care for patients of diverse groups in a multicultural community. The end of program student learning outcomes are derived from the mission, philosophy, curriculum framework, and organizing concepts and structure of the nursing program, inclusive of the Massachusetts Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies.

1. Utilize clinical judgement, with consideration of patients’ culture, preferences, values and needs, to provide patient-centered care across the lifespan (Patient-Centered Care).
   
   
2. Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for the delivery of standards-based nursing care that is consistent with ethical, legal, and regulatory practice (Professionalism).
   
   
3. Collaborate with patient and interdisciplinary teams, employing effective communication skills, to achieve quality patient outcome (Teamwork and Collaboration and Communication)
